Haven’t sewn in a while and want to start a new project or do some basic alterations, but not sure where to begin? Then this class is for you. You’ll learn some timesaving techniques and brush up on your standard sewing skills.
In this hands-on class, students will practice some basic sewing techniques, inserting zippers (centered, lapped, invisible, craft (exposed) zippers), using interfacing, making bias tape, attaching hook and loop tape (Velcro), methods for inserting elastic, and various style hems and seam finishes, including a blind hem by machine. Making a machine buttonhole and sewing on buttons by machine will also be covered. Each student will leave with samples of all their work.
Each student will need to bring the following supplies and equipment for class:
- Your Sewing Machine in good working order, power cord, foot controller, manual and any accessories. Bring extra sewing machine needles. You should have a basic knowledge of using your sewing machine including threading, winding a bobbin and changing feet.
- Thread (any color) with bobbin.
- Basic Sewing supplies: Pins, scissors, tape measure, marking pen or chalk, seam ripper, hand sewing needle, point turner (can be chopstick), etc.
- Sewing machine feet: zipper foot, invisible zipper foot, blind hem foot, button foot and buttonhole attachment, overcasting foot, if you have them.
- A notebook to take home all the samples and instructions that will be provided by the instructor.
Class Cancellation Policy
To reserve a seat, all Pocono Sew & Vac classes must be paid in full upon registration. In the event that a student needs to cancel their reservation for a class, they should notify PS&V at least 7 days in advance (by phone) to be eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days before class will not be issued a refund.
If a class does not have the minimum number of participants 7 days prior to class day, the teacher will cancel class. The customer will be fully refunded within 7 to 10 business days. Any questions call PS&V at 800-442-8227.
Some classes require homework to be done before class, such as cutting/prepping fabrics. If homework is required, it will be posted in the class description. Please read the class description thoroughly before signing up before a class. If homework is not done by the start of class, you will not be able to attend, and a refund will not be issued.
