Sew the Allwell Box Top, a wardrobe staple. You will learn techniques and foundational skills for sewing a simple garment: assembling a .pdf pattern / cutting a pattern from a layered printout, making simple pattern adjustments (shortening and lengthening), cutting fabric, sewing and finishing seams, finishing a neckline with bias binding.

  • Sewing machine in good working order, power cord, foot pedal & manual
    • Extra bobbins
    • Machine needles size 80/12 or 70/10
  • Tools
    • Measuring tape
    • Pin cushion & pins
    • Seam ripper
    • Fabric marking tool (chalk, fabric pencil, Frixion pen, etc)
    • Fabric scissors
    • Paper scissors
    • Small, sharp scissors
    • Sharpie or pencil
  • Pattern: We will be sewing the Allwell Box Top designed by Amy Bornman.
    • You can purchase the ALLWELL BOX TOP + HACKING GUIDE ($14.00) as a .pdf file.
    • Printed pattern pages & Scotch tape – if you downloaded the .pdf pattern
      OR
    • You can purchase "HOW TO SEW CLOTHES", a book containing a paper version of this pattern at Pocono Sew and Vac.
    • Craft paper / freezer paper and Scotch tape or masking tape – if you are making your pattern from the printed version in the book
  • Fabric: Use the size chart and fabric requirements guide on THIS PAGE to determine how much fabric you need. Lightweight cotton, linen and linen blends are best for this project.
  • Thread: All-purpose thread to match your fabric

Optional Supplies

  • Iron and ironing surface – there are some to share in classroom
  • Cutting mat – at least 18” long - there are some to share in classroom
  • Rotary cutter – 45mm blade size is standard
  • Pattern weights
  • Coordinating fabric to cut bias binding
  • Pinking shears

Class Homework:

Press your fabric with a hot iron, then launder your fabric the same way you plan to launder your finished garment. Gather all materials and double check the supply list.

Sample tops in all six sizes will be available for participants to try on prior to pattern / fabric cutting. Wear a tank top or camisole for quick and easy fitting.

Class Cancellation Policy

To reserve a seat, all Pocono Sew & Vac classes must be paid in full upon registration. In the event that a student needs to cancel their reservation for a class, they should notify PS&V at least 7 days in advance (by phone) to be eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days before class will not be issued a refund.

If a class does not have the minimum number of participants 7 days prior to class day, the teacher will cancel class. The customer will be fully refunded within 7 to 10 business days. Any questions call PS&V at 800-442-8227.

Some classes require homework to be done before class, such as cutting/prepping fabrics. If homework is required, it will be posted in the class description. Please read the class description thoroughly before signing up before a class. If homework is not done by the start of class, you will not be able to attend, and a refund will not be issued. If you have any questions regarding class homework, please call the store and we will be happy to help.
