A wardrobe is made up of garments that fit your body type in a range of colors that complement your personality to express your style. In planning a wardrobe, you must carefully consider the pieces you make and how each piece contributes to the whole of your wardrobe. Building a wardrobe takes skill and organization. Evaluating your lifestyle, your body type, color palette, fit, and fabrics will lead you to the answers you need to curate a collection of garments that are your wardrobe. Join Joy Macdonell on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Pocono Sew & Vac to learn how to plan to make garments for your dream wardrobe. In this class, we will evaluate your current closet, figure out your body type, discuss figure and fit, learn the language of color, develop a wardrobe palette, and plan for how to shop and create figure flattering garments for your wardrobe.

Homework:

  1. Please take accurate measurements for your Bust, Waist, and Hip. Get help taking your measurements. When you take them, please do so in undergarments so that they are accurate. Be honest with yourself and record them as they are. We will use these measurements to determine your type of figure.
  2. Review your closet. Make a list of your 8 stable pieces. These should be your favorite items. Note 8 "likes" about these items: is it the fit you like? Is it the color? Is it the fabric?
  3. Think about the items you would like to discard from your wardrobe. Why would you discard them? Is it fit? Color? Fabric?
  4. Bring notes about your current wardrobe with you to class. As we work through wardrobe concepts, you will want to be familiar with your current wardrobe and how you feel about the pieces that hang in your closet.
  5. If you have handmade garments, jot down a few thoughts about what you like and don't like about the fit, fabric, and colors.

You don't have to take this homework too seriously, planning your wardrobe should be fun and you will learn more about planning your wardrobe in class. These assignments are simply to get you thinking about what you like and don't like about your current wardrobe. Looking forward to seeing you in class!
